Ice Shelf Collapse

In the ScienceDaily (2008) article “Antarctic Ice Shelf Collapse Blamed On More Than Climate Change” the author talks about an Ice Shelf Collapse that is not because of climate. In the Journal of Glaciology it says before final summer comes the ice has already collapsed by itself. Before we thought the ice shelf collapsed because of the climate, but a new study showed us Ice Shelf collapse is not totally because of climate. The study is very important, because the ice shelf collapse can control the sea level. Professor Glasser recognized that global warming was a factor in the collapse, but it was just one factor in global warming. Also, he will show an important role in the future.

Now there are many reasons that cause environment problems. Many people do not care about environmental problem. They usually throw trash anywhere and clip the trees. We should solve the Ice Shelf collapse. We can do three things to solve the environmental problem. Those are do not use disposables, do not always use cleaners, and do not make noise.

First, we can stop using disposables. Most people use disposables, because disposables are very convenient. People do not know that disposables can pollute the environment. For example, when people finish using a disposable at a birthday party, they might throw away the disposable. We cannot degrade the disposable. If we burn the disposable, it might pollute the atmosphere. If we bury the disposable in the ground, they require 100 to 500 years to rot. It is bad for animals and plants. Finally it is bad for humans, because polluting hormones can make animals and plants mutate and people eat those animals and plants.

Second, we should not use more cleaner, because the cleaner can pollute water. When you wash your clothes, you might use a lot of cleaners. People want their clothes to be very clean, so they use a lot of cleaners. It is very bad for water. The cleaner can destroy the sea ecosystem, because in the cleaner is a chemical composition. After people use the cleaner, it will flow to the ocean.

Finally, we should stop making noise. It also can pollute the environment. The noise is from our life, such as cars, factories, and electric products, etc. For example, in the field of construction work they create many noises, because they use many tools, like chainsaws, and big rock drills. The chainsaw can make 100dB noise and big rock drill can make 130dB of noise. In the world, there may be many fields of construction work. They will make a lot of noise to pollute the environment. We should make as little noise as we can.

In conclusion, today there are many factors to pollute the environment. The Ice shelf collapse’s speed is very fast. This is all because of environmental pollution. We should do something we can do. We can stop using disposables, use less cleaner, and stop making noise. If we can do this, the environment might become normal.

Wilkins Ice Shelf

In P. Spotts's (2008) article, "Antarctica's Wilkins Ice Shelf Eroding at an Unforeseen Pace," he explains about how glaciers are dissolved by themselves. First, the U.S, Britain, and Taiwan researchers say ice is lost by itself. They say this erosion cannot hurt sea levels. A glaciologist says the mainland has started to warm up because of Wilkins ice. Actually Wilkins ice speed is more quick than research say. Second, the greatest concern of the region is West Antarctica. The West Antarctica ice sheet still has not changed. East Antarctica had no mass ice between 1992 and 2006. Scientists say all of the factors are because of warmer air and sea temperatures. Third, Dr. Vaughan says the Wilkins Ice Shelf is different from the other. He said, "It's kind of a come-and-go ice shelf." He said Wilkins was according to the season. Finally, Dr. Vaughan says scientists should be able to improve the machine to predict sea climate and conditions.

The global warming is big problem for now. Many people are warning of global warming, because global warming has made ice dissolve. Why is ice dissolving very quickly day by day? There are three reasons of Wilkins ice shelf.

First, Wilkins Ice Shelf is because of cars' wasted gas. Now people are using cars everyday. If we have no car, we cannot go anywhere in a small town, but those exhaust waste gas. In cars' waste gas there is CO2. Too much CO2 in the sky causes he green house effect. It makes global warm.

Second, electric products they can cause it's destruction. For example, in your house there is an air conditioner. When the air conditioner turns on, the air conditioner's fan puts hot air out. The hot air collects outside. In the sky, there will be hotter and hotter. The hot air will make air warm. Also, hair driers and a refrigerators make the air warm.

Third, factory contaminants destroy the Wilkins ice shelf. In all of the world there are many factories. The factory makes our needs in our life. But the factory contaminant makes environmental pollution, because the contaminants flow into the ocean. They did not manage the contaminants. They just put them into the ocean. It pollutes the ocean very seriously.

In conclusion, many reasons cause global warming. The car wastes gas, factories contaminate, and electric products pollute the environment. It makes global warming. The global warming is very serious. We should find solutions to solve these problems.
